If you’re trying to get pregnant, or have experienced fertility challenges like recurrent miscarriages, your thyroid may be a much bigger piece of the puzzle than you realize.

In this episode of The Empowered Thyroid Podcast, I’m joined by Thyroid Reset System Success Coach, Felishia Desjardins, to talk about the connection between hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, fertility, and pregnancy, and why properly assessing your thyroid health should be an important part of your fertility journey.

We talk about some of the most common fertility challenges we see in women with thyroid disease, including difficulty getting pregnant and recurrent miscarriage, and why so many women still aren’t getting a comprehensive thyroid assessment when they seek fertility support.

We also dive into the thyroid markers that matter when you’re trying to conceive, including TSH and thyroid antibodies, and discuss why simply being told that your thyroid is “normal” may not always give you the full picture.

But this conversation goes far beyond the thyroid. We talk about where we see gaps in the conventional fertility approach, why deeper investigation into hormones, nutrient status, gut health, metabolic health, and autoimmunity may be important, and how a root-cause approach can complement the incredible tools that conventional fertility medicine has to offer.

We also discuss something I wish more women were taught: preparing your body for pregnancy should ideally begin months before you start trying to conceive. Felishia shares what she believes women should be thinking about during that preconception period and some of the foundational areas that can be investigated before and during fertility treatments like IUI or IVF.

If you have hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s and you’re trying to conceive, preparing for pregnancy, or wondering whether your thyroid could be playing a role in your fertility journey, this episode is for you.
